8 Fetuses Found In Abdomen Of 21-Day-Old Baby In Ranchi In Rare Case

In a rare medical phenomenon, a team of doctors led by Dr. Md. Imran successfully removed eight fetuses from the abdomen of a 21-day-old baby in Ranchi, Jharkhand. A Rare Case of Fetus-in-Fetu The infant, born in the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand, was admitted to the hospital after her parents noticed a swelling in her abdomen. Initial diagnostic tests suggested the presence of a cyst or tumor. However, during the surgical procedure performed on November 1st, Dr. Imran and his team made a startling discovery. They found eight undeveloped fetuses inside the abdominal cavity of the newborn. This condition is medically known as Fetus-in-Fetu (FIF), a rare congenital anomaly where a malformed vertebrate fetus is enclosed within the body of its twin. "Fetus-in-fetu is extremely rare, occurring in less than one in five lakh births. However, finding eight fetuses is unprecedented globally," stated Dr. Imran. Successful Surgery The operation was complex but successful. The fetuses ranged in size from 3 centimeters to 5 centimeters. Following the surgery, the baby was reported to be in a stable medical condition. This case highlights the advanced surgical capabilities available in Ranchi under the guidance of experienced specialists like Dr. Imran. The hospital plans to document this unique case for international medical journals.
